I am so sorry to hear your dad has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and that it is stage 3. I thought I would share with you Cancer Research UK's reliable information on oesophageal cancer so that you get an idea as to what to expect. There is a section too on what stage 3 oesophageal cancer is. 

You're definitely not alone and you've come to the right place to meet others who have had a similar diagnosis or who have looked after a loved one with oesophageal cancer. Do feel free to use the 'search forum' option in the search bar above to look for other 'oesophageal cancer' discussions. I had a little look for you and found for example Bbl2023 's thread whose auntie was diagnosed a few months ago with oesophageal cancer - feel free to respond to it if you wish.

Just thought I’d reach out and say hello. 
My dad was diagnosed with stage 1 tonsil cancer in spring, so I know how you’re feeling. It’s been a very long few months but he finished radiotherapy a week ago and is doing extremely well.

 Fifties is relatively young for Oesophageal cancer. I was 55 when I was diagnosed with it at Stage 4, I’m now 65. 

It’s scary news to come to terms with but, whenever you look at the published stats, remember they cover all ages of patients and that many cancer patients have other conditions as well. 

Another positive is that survival and recovery rates are improving year on yea - a lot of the data in the public domain is well out of date.

Was/is your cancer considered advanced? Must have been tough for you, congratulations for keeping on. My dad had a laparoscopy and was found to have fluid in his abdomen suspected of malignant ascites so is having a biopsy based off of sample taken. I was wondering if you knew anything about this condition. From what I’ve read it looks bad should I be preparing for the worst soon? I was hoping to have a couple more years at least but now I feel I need to accept that it’s a few months if it comes back as confirmed malignant ascites.

Mine was diagnosed at stage 4 with secondaries detected on my liver, kidneys and lungs as well as in several lymph nodes. I was so lucky to respond unusually well to the chemo and made an almost miraculous recovery.

I’m afraid I know little about ascites except I know that it isn’t always caused by cancer as I once had one which was painful but non-cancerous.
