Newbie living after colon cancer removal. Loose motions

Good evening. I am a 57yr old male. Recently returned home after having a lesion removed from my colon

I am struggling to stop extremely loose motions with the foods I have been advised to eat.

Are there people out there that have or had the same?

Any help gratefully received..

Thanks,

Phil

  • Hi. I had a right hemicolectomy a few years back. The first few weeks after I had the runs 12 times a day what ever I ate. But it did improve after that quite quickly. I found that fibre was my enemy at first and I ate simply but boring scrambled eggs, potatoes, chicken, fish that sort of thing. Introduced veg and fruit slowly in small amounts. Also found jelly babies were good at firming ' things' up - but don't overdo them else you'll have the reverse prob- maybe 6 or 8 a day. Marshmallows also good.

Many years on I still have some issues with fibre and also lactose  Intolerance . But better to be alive.

  • I’m new to the group and 6 weeks post hemicolectomy for cancer. I was getting really worried about my loose stool until I read your post. There is hope it might improve. Off to buy jelly babies!

  • Yep. Jelly babies really helped me and taste pretty good. I'm in the midst of preparing for my annual surveillance colonoscopy., so feeling pretty yuck but jelly babies allowed lol
