Good innings! Made it to 50 then found out I have prostate cancer

So I got my half century a few weeks ago . 50 . Then diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Scan biopsy , gleason 7 t2.

Consultation upcoming but advised radical prostectomy. Aware of all the side effects. Teying to weigh up the pros and cons. Currently 95 pc sure I've made my decision for surgery , however there are a few people suggesting exploring radiology .  I'm of the opinion now I'm in a good place to be cured by removal rather than gambling on less permanent options. U think my age is going against me in that I've got a longer life expectancy than someone diagnosed in 60s or 70s ?

  • Hi.  I was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2010. Gleason 3+4, stage t2.  PSA 5.6.  Age 56.  I had a robotic radical prostatectomy in Dec 2010... and I'm still here with my PSA < 0.1

Actually, radiotherapy is a viable option for prostate cancer and the cure rate is equally high as surgery.  I was advised against it because I had previous IBS and there was some worry that radiation would make it worse.  You may not be suitable for other forms of treatment (such as HIFU) because your Gleason is 7, but things may have moved on since my time.

    Good luck
