Just joined

Hi I'm a 52 year old mum who was diagnosed with a stage 2a melanoma on the 4 May after having an ulcerated mole removed on the 23 April in Bristol. I am now waiting for a date to have a WLE and SLNB.
I just wanted to reassure those who have just started their journey that although the waiting seems colossal and anxiety levels can run high you can get through. I went to the Drs in Oct/Nov time and it seemed to take forever to get to the next stage. I found once I actually knew I had a great calm- right I have cancer and it's being dealt with now. Don't fear cancer or let it consume you, just talk to people who know what your going through.
This seems to be a very supportive group which is why I have joined

  • Hi Cyprus,

A very warm welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear why you've joined. There does seem to be a tremendous demand for dermatology appointments, hence the long wait. I hope that your date for WLE and SLNB come through soon. Dealing with the unknown is always scary. Irrespective of the outcome, most of us feel better once we know what we are dealing with.

This is indeed a very supportive group. Your attitude to this is spot on. Life is too short to let a cancer diagnosis consume you. It really does help to talk to people who know what you are going through and it is positivity that will get you through this. I  have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life, some 14 years on.

Please keep in touch and let us know when your appointment comes through. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

Thank you for your supportive post that will be really helpful to those awaiting appointments and biopsy results. As you say, waiting is the hardest but once you have a diagnosis it does get easier - it's all about having some control of what's happening to your body - whilst waiting you have no control and feel in limbo.

Good luck with your WLE and SLNB. If we can be of any help with any questions, just ask.
