Breast Cancer 2 Week Wait

Hi everyone,

I've been a bit of a lurker in this community recently. Found a strange lump in my right breast & my GP examined me on Friday and referred me on a 2ww to the breast clinic.

I know this is more of a safety net and chances are it will be something like a cyst but I thought I'd introduce myself now in case anyone else is in a similar boat and they'd like some support and to chat (well, anyone not just those on a 2ww).

Hope you're all having a wonderful mother's day.

Thanks all ️

    Hi Wag1-teg1,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Only 20% of all cases referred to the breast clinic turn out to be cancer, so you're right that the chances are this is more likely to be a cyst or fibroadenoma. In spite of knowing this, it is usually an anxious time until you get your results. You will normally have about a 2 week wait from the date of referral,to get your appointment at the clinic. Most people then have a mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy. Younger people are less likely to have a mammogram, as their breasts tend to be denser and they don't get a clear enough image.

There is then a further 1-3 week wait to get the results of these tests. If you have tests make sure to ask when you can expect to get them back before you leave your coonsultation, as times vary throughout the country. I have had two bouts of breast cancer, but I am still living a busy and productive life 13 years on from diagnosis..

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you so much for the information, that's really helpful.

I had a call today and have an appointment on Wednesday. I'm quite sure it's nothing sinister but always best to check these things isn't it.

I will let you know how I get on.

Thank you for your support and I hope you are doing well x
