Hi. I had a mastectomy and reconstruction in nov 21 and found it an easy procedure tbh. Not too painful afterwards , the drains were a bit of a pain but nothing that you can t cope with. Do your exercises once you ve had your 2 week all clear . Make sure you rest but also do some gentle exercise and build yourself up. Outcome looked very good and i m happy with it , just waiting for a nipple now. Wishing you lots of luck xx
Hi Yogini,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am sorry to hear that you need a mastectomy and just want to reassure you that it is perfectly "doable".
I had a lumpectomy 13 years ago and a double mastectomy for a 2nd cancer the following year. I actually found the double mastectomy easier to deal with than the lumpectomy. Admittedly, I didn't have reconstruction, but all healed well and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.
When are you due to have your surgery?
You might find it easier to have nightwear which opens at the front, after your surgery. This saves you from raising your arms above your head and is easier for your care team to look at your wound. You will be given some exercises to do after you get home. Try to do these regularly, as they help enormously. Don't lift anything heavy and just be kind to yourself for a while.
I am always here if you have any more questions.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hello
Thank you for your message. I actually had the surgery on 11/01 and I am home now recovering. Taking small steps but I am healing! I am tired easily but it seems to be going okay.
Thank you so much for responding. I am home now had the surgery but they had to change it midway and put it an implant. Taking it easy and small steps to recovery!

Hi Yogini,
I am glad to hear that you have already had your surgery and hope that you are not feeling too sore. Just take things one day at a time and listen to your body when you feel tired. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
