Feeling scared and overwhelmed

Hi

Been reading these chats for a few days and feel it's been a help.

I went to my GP 3 weeks ago and was given antibiotics for mastitis, it didnt clear up after the week so went back and this time he referred me to the breast clinic on a 2 week fast track, so went today.

I was really nervous but to be honest I expected them to say it's an infection or a cyst. After 2 mammograms and ultrasound the doctor told me there was something suspicious and took biopsy's from breast and lymph nodes. I was then told I'd wait around 10 days for results but they were pretty sure it was cancer! The doctor talked about surgery and other options but will know more once results are back.

im just so scared that there will be nothing they can do...I'm 47 and just never expected to go through this...who does I suppose.
Just wanted to share my story and hope there is a lot of survivors out there with positive stories xx

  • Hi, I'm sorry for your diagnosis! Could I ask you about the mastitis symptom? Did you have any red swelling on the outside of your breast? Or any painful lump?
I'm going through something similar myself! I have been on two rounds of antibiotics for an infection but still in pain however I never had any visible swelling etc just pain felt inside.
my clinic appointment is tomorrow and I'm terrified!

  • Hi Holliejz

Well it was a bit red but couldn't feel a lump just a burning sensation really, I did think my right breast did look a little bigger than the left but not so you'd notice. I'm so pleased I went and got it seen or who knows when I would have actually felt something! I had a weeks worth of antibiotics and still felt the sensation but to be honest it was still a shock I still thought it may be an infection!

I know it's scary but most people find it is just an infection or a cyst and if it turns out not then your going and getting it sorted and that's the main thing!

I had a mammogram and an ultrasound and both straight forward and we're quick.
Good luck and let me know how you get on xx

  • Thanks for the reply! The gp could feel a swollen infected tube shape thing when i first went and then when I went back she could feel something was hard in there. I'm just tired of feeling scared and wondering all the time, I'm just ready to get it seen to so I know what's what!
