Waiting for biopsy results for endometrial cancer is torture

Hi new to this forum but have been reading lots of posts, thank you!

I had my last period age 52 last May after months of constant bleeding I was relieved to be done with it all after 41 years...fast forward to August when I started spotting on and off for 6 weeks so I called the dr, more worried likely as my mum died from endometrial cancer in 2018.

Anyway I had a cervical smear and an ultrasound within a week and got the call 2 days later to go in asap to see someone as my lining was just over 6cm and concerning. I had a biopsy last week, not at all nice as experiences go!

My mum also had breast cancer at 51 and I'd always thought I'd be at risk for that, not this.

I am now waiting, worrying and trying really hard to not panic and spin out over what may be when I don't yet know the results. How long did people take for results and how did you cope with the wait?

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear about your Mum, and sorry you are experiencing this. I think it depends on where you had it done. I had a hysteroscopy and DNC privately last year and the Consultant called me less than a week later. I had a hysteroscopy on the NHS this year and I waited a month before I was told it wasn't a big enough sample to test. I have read of people waiting up to 10 weeks, but that was due to Covid. So, hopefully your wait isn't too long, and you can always call if you think it has been too long.

All the best in keeping distracted and managing anxiety during this time.

  • Hi there thanks for the reply, results are inconclusive so I'm back for the hysteroscopy next week, I'd rather just go straight to hysterectomy but am guessing that's too extreme with no positive result! Thanks for replying I appreciate the support and I hope you too are ok after your journey so far x

  • Yep, they have to have an idea of what they are dealing with. And, hopefully nothing sinister. But, I know what you mean. I have been bleeding daily for over 18 months now. They tried to do an ablation in March but my womb is the wrong shape. So I was put on a waiting list for a hysterectomy. I take 2 tablets of progesterone daily, but still bleed. Sometimes it is reduced to streaking, but this weekend it has been heavy again. So, I'm not looking forward to the first few weeks after the hysterectomy, but am looking forward to putting it all behind me.

Good luck, and they were pretty quick in getting back to you.
