Radiotherapy to the neck and mouth after surgery

I have recently had three operations on my mouth and neck to remove primary tumor in mouth and infected neck gland. I have been told that viable cancer has all been removed but that because of size of gland there is a strong likelihood of a recurrence of the cancer and so am now going to undergo a six week course of radiotherapy. This will be radiotherapy without chemo alongside. I have heard/had explained all the possible side effects but was wondering if anyone had been through this same situation and could let me know how it affected them?

  • Hello Bill66

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and hope your recovery from the surgeries is going smoothly.

We have quite a few members here on the forum who have been through the same treatment you will be having. I'd suggest looking through this thread and posting there to introduce yourself. I'm sure that you'll get some helpful advice and support.

You'll also find on that thread, links to personal blogs that [@RadioactiveRaz]‍ and [@Anchor1707]‍ both wrote during their treatment. I know that many members have found those accounts to be very helpful during their own journey with great insight and tips for coping.

We also have some information here on our website as well as a team of nurses that you can call to speak to if you feel it would be helpful at any point. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that the rest of your treatment regime isn't too difficult. Keep in touch with us here on the forum and let us know how you're getting on.

    Best wishes,
