Worried

I am really worried I have ovarian cancer. My grandmother and mother both passed away from this. I haven't had a period for 18 month and suddenly I have one. My stomach gets bloated. I am constipated and very tired which are some of the symptoms. Am I high risk of getting it

  • Hello, if you are concerned speak with your gp as soon as you can, at least then you know you are doing something positive about your situation

  • l would contact your dr and ask for a referral to gynaecology explaining your family history and let your dr decide what's next.
l had left sided abdominal pain and bowel changes, weight loss, tired. I had a colonoscopy and it showed bilateral complex ovarian cysts, the colorectal dept referred me to gynaecology oncology which was a bit of a surprise, The cysts and overies plus extensive adhesions were removed 8 weeks later, A bigger op than expected.  Fortunately the biopsies were benign.
l hope any ovarian cysts ect you may have are also benign.
    Take care

  • I hope you've already contacted your GP about the bleeding and other symptoms.

Having a close family history of ovarian cancer does put you at higher risk. I've copied in the relevant page from this site. So, the sooner you get your symptoms investigated the better I feel. It doesn't mean you necessarily have cancer, but you do need to get these symptoms investigated in order to exclude it.
