Breast lump

Hello I found a lump in my left breast  last week. I am 58 years old .I Have an appointment on Monday at the breast clinic no idea what to expect .I'm worried sick and advice would be greatfull feel like I'm losing my mind .I have been working but feel this is to much for my mental state at the moment .

  • Hi Jue22,

Sorry to hear that you have found a lump. It is always good to have these things checked out and I hope your appointment comes round quickly for you.

I would expect that you will have a mamogram and and ultrasound in the first instance; they may then also do a biopsy if they feel this is neeeded. This often happens within the initial appointment.

Usually you will then need to wait around two weeks for biopsy results - this is the hardest part in my opinion - once you have your results and know what you are dealing with things feel more mangaeble.

The waiting for appointments/results can be really difficult - just be kind to yourself, try to keep busy, but also give yourself a break - if works seems too much perhaps take a day off! Am sure your employer would understand!

Take care and I hope your appointment goes well on Monday :-)

  • Thank you for your lovery comments .

  • Many people go to the breast clinic for assessment and they are fine breast lumps can appear for all sorts of reasons things like cysts, blocked milk ducts or infections. I hope you have a good outcome.
Try to keep busy over the weekend and if you would like to take someone to the appointment. They are allowing relatives/friends into the clinics again now following Covid restrictions.
Make a list of any questions we all forget when we get into the office, they are happy to help you.
    Take care

    Susie
