2 lumps found on right breast

Hi I went to the doctors on Thursday as I felt a lump under my right armpit but whilst there the doctor found another smaller lump under my right nipple. The lump under arm pit is about 4cm I am 38 and really scared I have appointment on wensday for breast cancer unit I was just wondering what will happen and will I find out that day whats wrong it's driving me crazy .    Thankyou

  • When I went to the breast clinic I was seen by the nurse first. She asked a few general questions about my health and any history of breast cancer in family. She then did an examination of both breasts and armpits. I was then sent for a mammogram and ultrasound. While having the ultrasound the doctor decided to do a biopsy because of what she could see. I then saw the nurse again. She told me that it did look like a cancer but needed to wait for the biopsy result. I was told the team meet once a week to discuss results. The breast clinic I went to meet on a Friday so I was booked in for first thing Monday morning. They recommend that you bring someone with you when you do return for your results

    Hope this helps

    Good luck x

    Hi Haylanc,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

When you attend the clinic you will probably be seen by a nurse first and asked a few general questions. You will probably then see the consultant who will discuss your symptoms before examining your breasts. Most units now are more of a one stop shop, where they attempt to carry out the various tests and scans on the same day as your initial appointment. This can mean that you are in the unit for up to 4 hours when you are moving from one department to another, although most appointments are over quicker. In smaller units, you may be called back for these.

Depending upon the findings of your examination, you may then be sent for a mammogram, an  ultrasound and possibly a biopsy. You will only be told what's wrong if the consultant is pretty sure  that it is or isn't cancer, but in most cases you have to wait a further 1-2 weeks to get the result. If you do have to have a biopsy, make sure to ask when you are likely to get your results before you leave the clinic. Waiting times can vary from area to area and, it's easier if you know when to expect them.

I do hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
