Advice on lump in armpit

Hello I did write a post about my lump in my arm out I'm just really worried and stressed if I have to have a scan or anhyhibg I got s doctors appointment on Saturday since I noticed over a week ago a small strange lump in my armpit it does move and it doesn't feel like a solid lump if that makes sense?

I just want to ask if anyone else's has had this before? Cancer unfortunately runs in my family quite a lot and my auntie has only recovered from breast cancer less than a year ago.

I don't know what to do I'm stressed and worried about if it is a Tumor or cancer.

    Hi Silkaishere,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear of your symptoms, but you are doing the right thing by getting these investigated. Try not to panic. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts, hormonal or fibrous changes. The fact that your lump moves is hopeful, because most cancerous lumps are fixed and have jagged edges.

If your GP feels that this needs further investigation, you will be referred to the breast clinic, where you may possibly have to have a scan. However scans are painless, so don't stress yourself about this. You will find that most of the staff at these clinics are very understanding and helpful. It usually takes about 2 weeks from the date of referral to get an appointment at the breast clinic, althoough it can take a little longer in some areas due to Covid and staff shortages.

If you have any tests carried out it can take another 1-3 weeks to get your results. The only advice I can give you is to keep yourself preoccupied with a pastime and to steer clear of consulting Dr Google. Much of the information here is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the most spectacular cases. As a result, doing this will only scare you further and serve no useful purpose. I am sorry to hear about your auntie's diagnosis - is she on your maternal or paternal side?

Try to remind yourself that "it isn't cancer until you're told that it's cancer". Even if the worst comes to the worst, breast cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer nowadays.

Please let us know how you get on on Saturday. We are always here for you.
    Kind regards,

  • Thank you so much for the reply I really appreciate it!

I'm calming myself everyday and not thinking of the worst the strange part is sometimes when I touch it and press down on the lump it hurts/ aches. Is that sweat normally a cancer lump feels like? Mine moves every time I touch it and it feels squishy? If that makes any sense.

hopefully I get some awnsers on Saturday, what I'm also worried about is the fact that I'm going to a different doctors that I've never been before since my doctors are shut on Friday for good Friday and I'm nervous more of the fact they won't know me as well at my old doctors.

thank you for all your help!

    Hi Silke,

Unfortunately, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to cancer. Most cancers tend to be painless, but we can often make an area painful by continually prodding  and probing. They also tend to feel fixed and usually have jagged edges, but there is the exception to every rule.

This should be fairly straightforward for any doctor, so try not to worry about seeing someone new. I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please let us know.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • My lump in my armpit was a lymph node it was found a few years ago by my breast surgeon and watched it was removed recently as it seemed to have got bigger and sore

Nothing cancerous fortunately l hope you have a similar experience
