Brain tumour and bone cancer

Hi my dad was diagnosed with a grade four brain tumour back in December. He then had surgery to remove what they could at the end of December and that seemed to go okay they were able to remove the majority of the tumour. He then started on radio and chemotherapy tablets combined for 6 weeks which was then meant to be followed by 6 months of chemo tablets on their own. However about 6 weeks ago so only 5 months after his diagnosis we found out that his tumour was growing and the treatment was not being successful. After a couple of hospital trips they also then discovered that my dad had something very rare which was bone mets that had been caused by his brain tumour. The doctors said that this is very very rare as bone mets dosnt normally come from brain tumours. Since this diagnosis only a couple of weeks ago he has deteriorated so rapidly he has now lost all movement in his legs his speech is getting worse by the day and he is struggling to stay awake now. Does anyone else have experience of these 2 together and roughly how long do you think my dad has left ? The doctors when they last spoke to us said maybe months but I feel it is less than that with how quickly he has gone down hill.

  • Hello Livvyhg98

I'm sorry to hear that things have deteriorated for your Dad. It's understandably a very difficult time for you all at the moment.

I'm not sure that we have any members here who have experience of bone mets from a brain tumour but you may be able to connect with others through The Brain Tumour Charity forum. I've linked it for you here

It can often help to talk things through and if you'd like to chat with our team of nurses you're most welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can.

I hope this helps and that you're able to connect with others who have been through similar.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
