How do you make peace with dying?

Hi all,

I was diagnosed in December with a rare soft tissue Sarcoma, in January I had a life saving operation to remove a tumour with my right kidney, part of my bowel and a main artery. Fast forward to a month ago, I had started a very full on chemo regime which my consultant kept insisting was being used as a preventive and that I was cancer free. After spending a week in hospital as an inpatient I was feeling ok however day 5 being at home I had developed an infection. After being admitted to hospital they conducted various tests to find a source. It was then the doctor had seen some suspicious things on my lung he wanted to check out. The doctor ordered a CT and on review told me I have multiple large tumours in both my lungs, my liver and on my leg. I was devastated, my consultant demanded the scan straight away to discuss at an MDT. That was a week ago. My next conversation with my consultant was that I was terminal, they can treat me but they can't cure me. I have roughly 2 months to live. I am 29 years old. How am I supposed to digest this?

  • So sorry to hear diagnosis. I have Stage4 tumour in gullet an spread to stomach nodes. Had radiotherapy an now side effects gone can eat again. It has shrunk tumour so feeling positive. They can't operate but can treat for as long as possible. I not sure why but since being told the news I have accepted it so live day by day doing what I can. If feel well enough visit friends or if need to sleep I do. Hopefully you have a support system you can fall back on, my 3 daughters have been brilliant as at times I have acted like a petulant child! I have mini breaks lined up over next 3 months but have learnt that I can't always do the things I want to an need to rest. But if you can get help with medication to keep you comfortable try an focus on the fact everyone is different an not a statistic. My personality has always been easy going and I try not to change too much. Don't keep your concerns to yourself as I have find it helps to be able to talk about things. I hope you can get inner peace an take each day as it comes an who's to say how long we can go on for as I truly believe a positive attitude helps both mentally and health wise. Don't give up xxx
