How do you make peace with dying?

Hi all,

I was diagnosed in December with a rare soft tissue Sarcoma, in January I had a life saving operation to remove a tumour with my right kidney, part of my bowel and a main artery. Fast forward to a month ago, I had started a very full on chemo regime which my consultant kept insisting was being used as a preventive and that I was cancer free. After spending a week in hospital as an inpatient I was feeling ok however day 5 being at home I had developed an infection. After being admitted to hospital they conducted various tests to find a source. It was then the doctor had seen some suspicious things on my lung he wanted to check out. The doctor ordered a CT and on review told me I have multiple large tumours in both my lungs, my liver and on my leg. I was devastated, my consultant demanded the scan straight away to discuss at an MDT. That was a week ago. My next conversation with my consultant was that I was terminal, they can treat me but they can't cure me. I have roughly 2 months to live. I am 29 years old. How am I supposed to digest this?

    Hi Hayleymaggie,

I am so sorry to hear this latest news and can only imagine how devastated you feel, especially at such a young age. My mum had breast cancer which spread to her liver, lungs, bone and brain. She was considerably older than you, but it still came as a terrible shock.

One good point about your prognosis is that you can still have treatment - mum couldn't. Do you have someone who you can rely on for support, someone with whom you can discuss exactly how you feel? This can be a great help. There are a number of people on this site who have outlived their prognosis by some considerable time, so don't give up. Get those pink boxing gloves on and keep fighting this. A positive approach can make all the difference.

Here's hoping that you are going to here for quite some time to prove your care team wrong. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. Remember that we are all here for you and fighting in your corner.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
