Hair

I had chemo 3 years ago. I didn't get a break as 6 weeks after my radiotherapy I started to get pain in the lower back. That spread around.my pelvis area. After test the found tumours all over my spine ribs and also 2 breasts .. But what I want to say once my hair grew in. All the grays have gone. Yet it started salt and pepper colour. Then changed to a strawberry blonde.  Now it's getting darker almost to my natural colour.  I just wish I wasn't terminal to enjoy my hair colour to see what it will turn into. I've also started to get curls. Yet before treatment my hair was poker straight.  Has anyone else had this. I've heard of the chemo curl . But not about your hair growing  back to its original colour without a gray hair in my head. For a woman fast approaching 60 not to bad. Hope I get to see it long. But I doubt that as my time is fast approaching the end

  • Hello Lillian-G,

Thank you for sharing your hair experience! It's certainly incredible that your hair is growing back to its original colour and all the grays have gone and you've started to get curls when it used to be straight. It sounds like it looks great!

We have information on this page on what may happen after your hair grows back after chemotherapy. It does mention that "your hair is likely to be softer. It might come back a different colour and may be curlier than before. It will probably grow back at the same rate as it grew before chemotherapy."

I hope that you will hear from others here who have had a similar experience. I've slightly edited your title to make it more specific and so that it can be more easily spotted by other members who have been in a similar situation.

Very best wishes for the new year,

So glad you like your new hair, I've been on palative care since Feb 2016 know my time is running out was given 5years, I've got prostate cancer gone to lymph node spine ribs pelvis and a lung , just living with my uninvited guest.

I had chemo at start of treatment lost most of my hair mostly grey didn't have much to start with, then a 64year old male ,it started to gro back dark and curly and thicker, got a bit long so cut it,it started going straight and grey and thinner.

I keep trying different treatments some work some don't.i promised my wife (she's nearly 14years older than me)id look after her when she got old before she'd marry me that was over 49years ago, she now has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's But we keep going.

I keep positive and keep fighting.

    Take care. , Billy
