Mum been told lung cancer terminal

Hi my Mum was diagnosed 18mths ago with Non small cell cancer she was given radiotherapy as to frail for op or chemo she is 81. We were told in March it has spread to lymph nodes again to frail for any treatment so just palliative I am only carer but finding so hard no one to turn to she is now only 6st 5 and getting more pain don't know what to do feel as if I am second guessing all the time when she is not well.

  • Hi Lilyboo

I am so sorry to read about your mum. I have no experience of lung cancer but didn't want to read and run. It must be very difficult dealing with this on your own, don't you have nurses coming in to see your mum, are you in contact with support groups e.g MacMillian, Haven centres? Has yoor mum's GP put a community care plan in place? I would try and get as much help as possible as no one should go through this alone. I hope you get some help soon x

  • Hi Magpie Maggie

Thanks for your post my Mum did have a district nurse coming in every 2 weeks but they stopped coming in when lockdown started. Her GP is very good but I don't like to pester them. We don't have her regular 3 month hospital appts anymore because she is classed as palliative care I have been thinking about getting in touch with McMillian nurses. Thanks again for your post.

I would not think twice about pestering anyone when it came to making life easier for a loved one. I would kick up a fuss to get my loved one the pain relief they needed. If Macmillan can't help please get your mum's GP involved.
