Stage 4 cancer

Hi All, I am new to this forum. My Sister was recently diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.
Naturally this came has a big shock and heartbreaking news to all of her family.

I know statistically her chances of survival are low. I would like to hear stories  or advice
from members or friends on this forum who have managed to survive from terminal cancer.I have done some searching on Google who have either recovered or lived for several years
after been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Any advice would be welcome

  • Hello Billygoatt,

How is Shelbel? I found her posts very helpful.

Glad to hear you are also doing well despite difficult curcumstancres. I feel as if I'm in a nightmare.

  • Hi Ceyenne I was offered at the beginning an immunotherapy but that was only a trial. It wasnt a part of normal treatment .Only 1 person did that combo of drugs and they didnt have any results from so I have refused because there was no quarantee it would work for me.Was only trial anyway.honestly I dont know whats going on everybody is wondering why I am so long on Paclitaxel.I dont have the best relationship with my onco I dont trust them too much.

After the virus madness finishes i will try to get a second opinion.

I was using the cold cap then I lost my patience so my hair fell out but since January my hair is growing back.Very strange.Even I am still on chemo.Even my eyelashes has grown back.

  • Hi Denise,

Glad you are doing so well on the Paxlitaxel. Didn't think they could use it on someone continuously for so long? I've never heard of it but there must be a good reason.

Glad your hair is coming back too. Are you not being moved on to hormonal treatments of some kind? Letrozole? Ibrance? Tamoxifen? Perjeta? Herceptin? Seems odd that they would keep you only on chemo for so long. If I were you I would ask them. They have to answer a direct question.

  • Hi Denise

Alot of people have a three weekly dose unless it's a milder dose over a longer period so less side effects.

Which is a good idea I think just more travelling..

    Hope it keeps going well.

    Billy

  • Hi Ceyenne I cant go on hormonal treatment because I have tripple negative breast cancer which probably wouldnt respond to the hormone treatment.I am one of thoae 15% with tripple negative. Most of the people have hormone related one.Not me.

  • Hi Billygoat yes the travelling is annoying but the other hand I dont sit there for 3 hrs.Which I used to do when I was diagnosed first time. Now its only 1 hr.

  • Hi ceyenne

If you mean shellbel10 I'm afraid she passed on to a more peaceful place about seven months ago, she tried another chemotherapy and had bad side effects and just went down hill.

Sorry for giving you bad news but only fair that you know.

It was her last chance and she decided to go fighting nomatter what happened.

    Billy

  • Thank you. Billy. Sorry to hear about Shelbel 10. Honestly, to get so far... it's a cruel disease but I do believe it will be more manageable soon.

Many congrats by the way on your own cancer receding a little, spontaneously! Doctors must be baffled or do they know a reason for the recession?

    Ceyenne

  • Hi Denise1977,

Ah. My apologies. Didn't think of Triple Negative.

It's brilliant that you have been responding so well to treatment. Does that mean you will be on chemo more or less all the time or can they operate? Can they now use ablation or radiotherapy?

    Ceyenne

  • Hello Ceyenne I dont think they want to do anything with me except chemo.I am in London but my hospital is not of the best ones they seem to care too much.Well I wasnt told anything anyway. And I know if I would ask I would be really upset if they would say they cant do anything.I wish they could do mastectomy its all where my troubles started.

I am happy chemo is working but sometimes I am fed up with it.

When I was diagnosed I have chalenged the treatment and I was told i can go to a different hospital if I dont like it.So I was told to shut up.

If not virus I would get a second opinion.
