JUST HEARD HUBBY HAS TERMINAL CANCER

Hello Friends, After my husband spent three weeks in total of two hospitals, he was brought back home and within four days we were given an appointment at the local hospital to be told hubby of 85 years young has terminal cancer in his left lung, caused by asbestos he came into contact with as a young man.  We took it well, as when one reaches 86 and 85 years, you consider waking up a bonus.  However, I have been surprised that the only help we have ever received after I had to approach people, was a few leaflets.  The most helpful people were the Dept of Employment who actually visited us and made claims for us both to receive attendance allowances - even our local surgery sat on the form necessary to be signed by the doctor to make the claim and I had to chase this up.  The solicitors acting for my husband have been helpful, but then at the end of the day they will be receiving reimbursement.  The charitable concerns, not counting cancer research whom I have only just joined, have suggested I travel to see them - but I cannot walk to a bus stop and catch two buses with my asthma and arthritis and taxis would cost about £40 from past experience.   The local transport charity have proven that they stick to their rules regardless of people's needs and have proven most unhelpful.  Not a single soul has approached us with any advice and I feel I have to fight for my husband every step of the way and remain in darkness as to what care he will eventually need.  We were told by the Chemo lady that hubby could live for ten to eighteen months on average but how fit will he be?  Are all people left to "go it alone" when receiving such devastating information?
