My dad has got terminal pancreatic cancer

My dad was diagnosed in February with incurable pancreatic cancer it has spread to his liver. I live near my mum & dad and my one sibling my brother lives 140 miles away. I have a really tough job 2 kids and a mega busy life and am finding it hard to support my mum. She is struggling to deal with my dads deteriorating psychological state. His symptoms are that he has got a very swollen abdomen which is uncomfortable. He is on Oxycodone slow release tablets 15mg twice a day. He is having palliative chemotherapy. My dad is 73 and my mum is 70. They have run their own business for 40 years and still work now. My husband has recently taken over the business so that is taking the strain off my parents. I am dreading what is to come, the deterioration. It's heartbreaking. What are your experiences of this dreadful disease?

  • My husband is starting this same chemo next week. Fingers crossed after hearing about your Mum. Thank you x

  • How is everyone doing?  My gorgeous sister was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer on 10th Feb.  I still can't believe it.  We thought she had a virus and would come home with antibiotics.  It's metastasized to her liver with multiple tumours and so prognosis isn't good.  She's started on chemotherapy today but is starting to show the early signs of jaundice so I find myself bursting into tears still fairly regularly.  She's 53.

    Sending love to everyone here

  • I am so very sorry to hear this, my mum passed away 17th December aged 58 this this awful disease,  she'd only been diagnosed in the October,  things quickly went down hill and the week before she was due to start chemo she was  very jaundice and had a high temp, she was rused into hospital where we were told the cancer had spread every where and we had weeks left with her, the jaundice was getting worse due to a blockage that could not be operated on as she was so poorly she wouldn't of survived if they had fitted a stent. Pancreatic cancer is just awful it took my mum so quickly.  Sending lots of love and strength through this difficult time. Please message if you need a chat. Xx

  • Hi

So so sorry to hear about your sister.  It is a dreadful disease , my husband is 58 and now not good as not responded to chemo - it made him ill. He had no signs at all until last May and then overnight something was wrong. Not diagnosed until July where it had progressed rapidly.  Jaundice was completely fixed with my husband last September. They put a stent in to clear the tubes and he hasn't had jaundice since. I cry all the time - I have no answers for that unfortunately. I hope she responds to chemo well. Lots and lots of people do and you have to have hope.  I know my case isn't a good example but you must keep hoping.
