mum is dying

im 14 and my mum is dying what do i do . i gotta be strong for my younger siblings but its really hard

  • Hi HP, I'm so sorry for you and feel your pain. My dad is dying of cancer right now and it is very hard to cope with. I am 29 but his doesn't make it any easier being an adult and supposedly feeling more in control. None of us are in control with this. What is the situation with your mum? I am sending you strength and know that you have the courage you need to get through. This is a horrible disease and until you experience it you don't realise the pain that it can cause to a family. I know your pain and know that it will be very hard but that you will come out of the other side a much stronger person and you will grow up with great compassion and a different perspective on life. How many siblings do you have? Yes you need to be strong for them, but you also cannot put all of this on your own shoulders. Do you have anyone else close you can speak to? Other family members? All of you being there for each other is very important.
  • have the doctors said how long she has left?

  • Oh I'm very sad to hear that. It's hard to go through at any age but as a teenager it must be just awful. Sounds like you need a lot of support. You can't take it all on. Have you got an adult in your life who will support you and you can confide in? It's very important for you to have such support. Without knowing your situation, it's hard to offer you advice on this.

In terms of staying strong, I'm a 41 year old woman and struggle. My dad is dying. I think it's important to have a good cry, we all need to. Try and make a memory box with your mum. This is something I'm going to do with my dad.

  • Jojo is that going to be hard to do?

I found it easier to make a memory box of my Mum after, as I didnt want to have a discussion alluding to dying

  • Hi HP you are not alone. My mum is also dying, I am 32 years older than you but know exactly how you feel . We all try and stay strong but you cannot do that all of the time. We are always hear to listen, do you have someone at home or school to talk to? Xx
