Hi guys,

My results from the pet scan, aren't what I was hoping for. It shows a cancer node in both lungs. So as if weds I'm starting a new 12 cycle chemo every two weeks, which involves having it pumped for 2 days. Trying to look on the positive, it hasn't spread anywhere else. The doctors have said I've got 2 - 3 years.

I have been reading up on the use if turmeric, so today I bought some capsules from holland and Barrett. I have notb been as down as I thought I would be, trying to stay positive. It hit my husband hard, bless him.

The aches and pains I've been getting are a side effect from my daily tablets which is a relief.

On a lighter note, my daughter is due to give birth in 5 weeks. I'm so excited.

I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has replied on my posts, you have all really helped.

Thanks again Toni

  • Hi Toni,

Sorry to see your latest post ( not sure if we've 'spoken' before but I've certainly read your threads and seen your supportive comments to others.)

Will be thinking of you as you start your chemo. Let us know how you're doing - and definitely let us know your ' baby news' when it happens.

    Take care, Jo xx

  • Best of luck with the chemo Toni.

A new grandchild is something to look forward to.

I get my 3 month scan results on Tuesday so am keeping my fingers crossed.

  • Thank you river56

Good luck for Tuesday, keep us informed

    Hi Toni .....

I just wanted to send you a little message of hope. I met a lovely lady yesterday when I was at Chemo, called Hilary Craft.  She has secondary breast cancer and was also diagnosed with lung cancer and leukemia in 2009.

She was told by the hospital where she was being treated that there was nothing more they could do for her and decided to do a little research of her own into good oncologists.  She went along to see a gentleman who coincidently treats me and has a private clinic but also is an NHS consultant.

Six years later she is still doing well on chemo and living a normal life.

She was so impressed by his research that she opened a charity to fund his work and you can read about it if you google Action Against Cancer.

Goes to show that these 'average' prognosis given have many people who live well beyond their given time-scales. She told me they are coming on leaps and bounds with treatment and never to give up hope.

I hope your new baby brings much joy to your family and that my words keep hope in your heart x

  • Hi max56

I gave changedoncologists and he seems really nice and on the ball. He lectures on oncology so t the moment I have faith in him, unlike my other oncologist.

  • Hi, Toni, can I just say you need to check with your oncologist with regard to turmeric as there are some forms of chemo that are not compatible.  Also, the turmeric tablets you buy from the health food shops invariably have 95% curcumin in them which, in the long term are detrimental to the liver.  There is a paste you can make using organic turmeric and extra virgin olive or coconut oil that is excellent.  I have been using it for several months and am amazed by the results.  If you are on Facebook it is called Turmeric Users Group.  There are over 100, 000 members and I am sure you will be very encouraged by the stories.  Otherwise I could give you the recipe.  But as I say, check with your oncologist first.  Good luck.

I am so pleased that you have found someone in whom you have faith to help you to the best of his ability. I was not trying to advocate another change, but just to tell you this lady's story so that you know treatments are getting better month by month and people can live alongside their illness for many years.  As always, I am wishing you and all of us who find ourselves in this situation the best of luck. Speak soon x

  • Hi tonim,

I hope you are finding Cancer Chat helpful and supportive.

In relation to turmeric, we have some information about it here.

I hope you find it useful.

    Best wishes

    Jane

  • Hi Toni,

I'm sorry to read that your results weren't what you were hoping for.
Let's hope that the chemo goes well and you enjoy the new arrival into your family.
