Advice

My dad has been suffering from lung cancer and the recently stopped chemo as it wasn't working. He is in hospital and coughing up blood stained phlegm. He has very bad pain which they are trying to control with oxycodone. He has been prescribed midazolam why is this ? Anybody else had family prescribed this . They have told us it's untreatable.

  • Hello Kimmie, welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your Dad's illness. It sounds like your Dad is having a really hard time of it. I'm sure it must be hard for you and the family to watch him struggle so much with these challenges. Have you spoken with his medical team about this? You could call the nurse on the forum here and perhaps they can explain why this is happening. Their phone number is at the bottom of the page here and they are available between 9 and 5 Mon. through Friday, or you can message them by posting in the section "Ask the Nurses". I wish I could offer more, but I really don't know much about this. Come back on the forum and let us know how you get along with it.

    Take care.

  • Hi Kimmy,
I am sorry to see the reason you have joined the forum.
My husband was prescribed midazolam to keep him comfortable.  At this point hubby was no longer speaking but visible signs that he was agitated/uncomfortable were present in his eyes and forehead.  Clonazepam drops had not appeared to give relief.  He was on morphine driver also for pain relief and the medications were being used in the home as we had chosen palliative care at home.  I was administering the midazolam via sub cut.
With dad in hospital he will be getting the best possible care and treatment.
You and yours are in my thoughts
