Thoughts on the Dying Process

I insert my late wife's thoughts.  She died of Kidney cancer of the lymph glands on 19th January this year.  She was very positive to the end and tried hard to learn and share her experience for the benefit of others.

Please feel free to view and read and share with anyone who would benefit.  Debbie's horror was dying young and mine is living without her but her message is one of hope. xxx

  • Hi Gill,

My love goes out to you as I know how those cycles of treament can be a pain!

As a matter of interest my first degree was in Mathematical Physics and use to - a one time teach it at secondary and Further Education institutes!

    Kind hugs

  • Hi Annabel,

Mmmm Holly Trees, I hope they don't take too much light out though they will look good in berry!  I love trees and the different leaf shapes and colours.  I have in the past successfully grown oak, field maple and birch from collected seeds just for the fun of it!  Your neighbourhood sounds a nice place to live.

Sunny day today here, hope it is there: enjoy!

    Lots of hugs

  • Hi Jo,

It was nice to hear from you and thanks for the kind words.  As you may have noted I have struggled a bit, inevitably, over the past year with emerging into this New World in which I find myself.  It has been a difficult time.  I wasn't prepared for the future post 'the Dying Process' and only now recognise that 'the Dying Process' goes on long after death for those left behind.  This process includes discovering the New World and learning how to survive and live in it.  It is also about learning what you need to survive in it.  Each individual I am sure is different but still has to learn for themselves how to move on.  For me this has meant learning that I needed to find someone(s) to spend my time with to give meaning to it.  Then I realised that, ultimately, I needed someone very special to share that time with if I was ever going to be able to really find myself  (the new self which I have had to be open to accept may be different from the old one) and give direction, purpose and meaning to my new evolving life.  At the moment I believe I have been very fortunate to have found such a person.

    Lots of hugs

    Ian xx

  • Hi Ian

Thanks for your post of a couple of days ago.  Daughter has not decided what she wants to do quite yet but she is doing the four years masters so has plenty of time.  Teaching is certainly one option she is considering.  She did look at doing a joint maths and physics degree but decided it really was not an option.  In physics she has 20 hours of lectures and labs each week and if she had added maths it would have been another 15 hours.  Just too much.

Glad things are going well for you and that you are now able to move forward.

    Best wishes.

    Gill

  • Hi Gill,

Just to say teaching in this area is always a good back stop qualification.  I originally trained to teach in Further Education and then did a PGCE in Science and taught mathematics before going on to do my doctorate and a university academic career .  I have always felt secure with the teaching qualification that if anything went wrong career-wise I could always go back to the teaching as an income..... just a thought.

I'm off to Lingfield races today - not been before - but looking forward to it

    Have a good weekend

  • Morning Ian

Just to say enjoy your day at the races and hope you have a winner.  Friends of ours go to the races once a year and always enthuse about what a great day out it is.   Hope the weather is as sunny there as it is here at the moment (already been and done the weekly shop whilst hubby sleeps off a busy week and good social night out last night).  Hope the 'going is good'.  Hugs Jules xx

  • Thanks Jules,

The weather at the races was bright but very cold and windy...but hey who cares when you are enjoying yourselves.  We met up with some old friends of mine and a couple I/we didn't know but it went excellently...Costly in all, it has to be said, but worth it for the very enjoyable event and day it was.  Got two either-way pay outs but that doesn't cover the loses!!  Either way a few rounds of drinks on a night out with friends would probably cost more!  Definitely will go again.... In fact we are planning a follow up to the Dog Races....!!

Glad you are good and hubby feeling up to keeping up his social appearances.

Lots of kind thoughts, hugs and virtual kisses.

  • Morning Ian

So glad you enjoyed your experience (if not the loss of funds) at the races and a good day was had by all.  Am now imagining you studying form a bit more before your next trip.Have been to greyhound racing but many moons ago but can say it was a good night out. Socialising definitely good for the soul.  Take care. love and hugs  Jules xx

  • Hi Jules,

Thanks. You are right socialising is good for the soul .  I am going through a good period at the moment and am very happy and comfortable in feeling that way ... which I have found important.  I still have my moments but feel I am able to move on more quickly now and grasp the nettle of my future. You also, from your thread, seem to be settling into your current phase with your hubby's situation and that must help on a day-to-day basis .... if not solve anything. Life is to be lived and on days when its sunny, like it is here now, just being here and sharing it with someone who is with you brings such joy .

    Have a great week

Lots of love and hugs back

  • Hi Ian

So glad your day at the races went all (other than in financial terms).  It is somethng an old friend of mine used to do regularlay until one day he got carried away and lost £500.  Since then he has stopped going to the races and stopped betting although this was a slower process.  He just did not realise how deep he had got in to it but luckily he never lost more than he could afford.

Years ago I went to Goodwood races a couple of times (was living on the South Coast at the time)  which was great fun and if the weather was good it was really enjoyable.  Be warned if you do go and go on to Trundle Hill it gets very cold ad windy up there.

    Best Wishes.
