Advice PALB2 mutation diagnosis

Hi, I've previously had breast cancer and a unilateral mastectomy and have a family history of connected cancers.  I've also now been diagnosed with a PALB2 mutation. This mutation is only present in about 2% of inherited cancer genes so not much is known about it. I understand the breast cancer risk but my genetic counsellor said there are currently no figures for ovarian cancer apart from they know there is an increased risk. Does anyone else have experience of this gene or can point me to any further info?

  • Hi May567

I'm sorry to hear that your recent genetic testing came back with you showing positive for the PALB2 gene mutation. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about things.

I don't know if it's worth contacting Target Ovarian Cancer to see if they have any information about PALB2 and associated risks. It may be that they can help with information to answer any questions that you have. Alternatively, if you'd like to chat with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that you can get the information you need to help you move forwards with any decisions that you need to make.

    Best wishes,
