Anxiety after doxetaxel chemo treatments

Hi, i have just turned 28.. was diagnosed with breast cancer in July and I have almost completed my chemotherapy sessions I have one more to go. I am currently having doxetaxel once every 3 weeks quite a high amount of it and after a few days I am suffering bad anxiety. Has anyone else experienced this after treatment ? I could be thinking nothing then suddenly my heart races and then I'm overthinking about that then so on and it's a vicious circle. This anxiety can go on for 9 days after treatment or even more and it's so bad I can't sit down I'm constantly walking around to try an ease my mind onto something else. Nothing works. Reading, watching tv, crosswords , exercise my head just takes over I have spoke with my gp and he advised because I'm almost there with treatment to hold tight and not take any medication for now. I'd rather not either. It's getting so bad that I have passed a massage over to my consultant asking if he will let me off my last chemo and just do opp earlier. Please can anyone advise me.

  • Hi H-Marie,

I'm sorry to read that you are having these difficulties. It's good that you have spoken to your doctor about this and also that you are approaching the end of your treatment. I would suggest trying things that you enjoy and/or that keep you busy, but it sounds as if you have been trying a few things already. Perhaps adding something like meditation into the mix could help, along with things like fresh air and walks. I know these are quite general tips but they may help.

Do of course make sure you discuss anything that impacts your treatment with your specialist.

I hope things ease a little for you soon, and meanwhile if anyone here has any additional advice or experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
