Breast Cancer as a Teenager

I suppose the title says it all, but I am fourteen and have been diagnosed with breast cancer; I have also have been told that they cannot operate until 16, or perform a mammogram until 16 either... fighting a losing battle against my own body I suppose?

  • hey i'm 17, i have one breast (left) bigger than the other. i know this it's common but it is painful and feels heavy and just uncomfortable while the other is fine. i also have an inverted nipple looks very different to the other. i have this brown pigmented little mark i've had for a while on my skin that is on my chest but leans towards my left breast. my armpit on the left side is also uncomfortable. i am seeing my gp on tuesday. just very worried. my sister who is now 19 has lukeamia and has had it 5 times since 2014. that was due to her genetics, dna. i'm half arab and my arab side is very cancerous so i obviously worry. i know i shouldn't be online researching these things but i'm just very stressed. thanks.

  • Hi Cloomoo,

A very warm welcome to our forum. i am so sorry to hear about your sister's leukaemia and can understand why you are so worried. I am not a doctor, but I can tell you that most people have one breast larger than the other. At your age there are also a lot of hormonal changes taking place and thiese can lead to tender breasts.

However, you are doing the right thing in getting everything checked out and I sincerely hope that it will all turn out to be ok. We always advise people to steer clear of the internet at this stage, as it only serves to scare you further.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on when you see your GP. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
