bcc

My name is Samantha im 36
I have bcc on my nose and my left leg.  I didnt know thats what is was for a long time. I am diabetic and have high blood prusure and i thought it was something to do with that ( a cut that would not heal ).
They have been there for around 2 years now. I do like to sun myslef. i enjoy going outside and driving alot. Ive never used a sun bed or anything to that effect then again i have never used sun cream.
I it scaring me to death as it's on nmy face and the leasion on my leg has got alot worse in the space of a few days.  The one on my nose has always been open sore but the one on my leg was closed and hard skin untill a few days ago.
I have had medical photos taken of both of them and waiting for some feedback from that. ( could take 5-6 months )
I am concidering going private to get this sorted but i have no idea how much this would cost or how i go about even getting this started. My GP have been very good and i am having my leg dressed every week with this now and i have some sort of orange grainy cream for my nose. ( that looks even worse on my face.)
Im looking for someone to talk to about this really as i have no idea how do dealw ith it. I understand that there are worse types of cancer out there but it still freaks me out and sets off my panick attaks.

Sorry for the long one. but thank you for reading.

  • Hello Sammi and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I can understand why this is causing you a lot of stress but as you mentioned yourself, try and focus on the fact that BCC rarely spreads to another part of the body to form a secondary cancer. You can read more about this on this page on our website.

I thought I would also share with you information from the NHS website on going private which might be of interest to you and our website also has a section comparing NHS with private treatment. It sounds though like you have an excellent GP so perhaps it might be worth having a chat with your doctor about this and exploring what your different options might be.

Hopefully you will meet other members of our community who have had a similar BCC diagnosis and they will be along shortly to share their treatment experiences with you. I am sure you are in excellent hands and I hope that you can get this sorted quickly.

If you'd like to talk to our nurses about this, don't hesitate to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (but closed this bank holiday Monday)

    Best wishes,

  • Hi I just wanted to see how you got on I’m 37years and just went privately for Mole check and they have suspected bcc on my nose and Iv had it for like 6 years I just thought it was a spot that comes and goes during my menstral months. I’m waiting on a written report from the dermatologist to confirm so I’m all over the place at the moment.

  • Hello Sweetcheeks5, I had a BCC removed about 12 years ago. They did a 3 bifold flap surgery on the side of my nose. So they stretched skin from my cheek and a bit from my nose towards the eye corner. It's healed beautifully.

At the age of 75 now I never worry what it looks like and don't wear makeup. If I do, I use Body Shop Skin Defence at 50spf, and they have a lovely foundation and touch up to hide any more noticeable skin issues.

I'm not going to lie to you, there are a few issues where the folds of the flaps happen, but they are hardly noticeable at all. The surgeon was very good because it was an awkward shape. Hope this helps.

  • Thank you for your reply mine is on the bridge of my nose so I don’t know if they will stretch skin or do skin graft I’m hoping it will just be a scrap it off thing
