Struggling with loss of husband from Asbestos Mesothelioma

My husband died of Asbestos Mesothelioma very suddenly after only 3weeks been so poorly.I can’t come to terms with it all and find it so overwhelming. He was 73 and we had been together since I was 15 and married for 52years.

With covid I wasn’t allowed to visit until day before he died which was heartbreaking for me and my 2 daughters .

I hadn’t even heard of this illness until My husband was diagnosed and I feel can never move on as have lots of questions and no answers

  • Hello Angelah1949,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am so sorry for your loss - it must have been so traumatic for you that your husband died after only three weeks and to have found out that he was diagnosed with mesothelioma. How devastating it must have been for you to not have been allowed to visit him until the day before he died because of covid. My heart goes out to you and your two daughters during this difficult time.

I can completely understand that knowing that he had this type of cancer and the fact that it is linked to asbestos exposure at work will leave you with so many unanswered questions and with that feeling that it is hard for you to move on. I hope that you can manage to find some of these difficult answers. Our page on coping with grief may also be of interest to you as it will highlight the different phases of the grieving process and the fact that grief is a very personal thing and that often you are left with all these unanswered questions and all these complex feelings. Many of our members will have been through such a traumatic experience and have also lost a husband or wife to cancer and I hope they will be along shortly to share their stories with you.

We're thinking of you, your daughters and your family and wanted you to know that you are not alone and that you can come and offload on this forum at any time.

    Best wishes,
