I’ve lost my best friend and my dad

My dad died on Father's Day, and I'm really struggling.

He had cancer and it took him much sooner than expected

I knew it would hit me hard but this has truly devastated me. I'm 49 but I feel like a lost teenager !

I have great support from my wife and kids but I have this pain that won't go away.

How do you get through this?

  • Hello Marchairsine

I'm sorry to hear about the recent loss of your Dad. Grief is a natural process, but it can be devastating and it's understandable that you're feeling as you are. I'm glad to hear that you have such good support from your wife and children.

I know we've members here in the community who have lost loved ones and I'm sure some of them will post to share their words of support with you but I wanted to reply to suggest that you get in touch with an organisation called Cruse. They are a charity that offers bereavement support and I know that we've many members who have found having that 1-1 talking support to be really helpful in their journey with grief.

You're also most welcome to keep posting here on the forum if it helps to have somewhere to offload your thoughts and feelings.

Be kind to yourself Marchairsine and take things a day at a time. We're here to listen and offer any support that we can.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
