Learning a lesson!

The biggest lesson I have learnt since loosing my dad last year is that the majority of people just don’t care. Grieving is such a lonely time and I have expected people to care, make allowances but actually most people just don’t care. I am a very caring person, I care about everything, always have, i am very sensitive so this has been a big shock to me.

At this particular time I may loose my job. Who stays and goes depends on our reviews over the past 18months. During this time my lovely dad was dying and I had a particularly bad review as I couldn’t perform as well as I was falling apart. Nobody cared, offered support, gave me allowances, offered to do my review again after giving support, nothing. So this review makes me on average appear terrible when all the reviews before and after were good. Now I have brought this up but does anybody care.....no.

What do I, do I stop caring as much, change who I am because nobody seems to care about me??

  • We have one to one meetings soon to tell them of anything we are not happy about which could influence the outcome of the process. I will definitely be writing it down for that. I only work part time in a retail shop so it’s not a great job but it’s something I need to keep at the moment. My reviews since that bad one have been great so hopefully they will see my reasoning.

  • Hi Sarah,

Are you in a Union? They’d normally be my first port of call, followed by your HR Dept (if your company has one) Citizen’s Advice Bureau, www.carersuk.org/.../discrimination-under-the-equality-act-2010  and MacMillan.

Given you’re a carer, rather than a patient the CarersUK link might be the most appropriate.

    Good luck

    Dave

  • So yesterday I appealed my review and I am supposed to find out the response within 24hrs! I have my fingers crossed !

  • Crossing my fingers too for you.  Please let us know what happens.  Annie

  • So they told me today my appeal was rejected. Something along the lines of me not falling into the category of not being personally discriminated against during my review. Although they did say that proper protocol wasn’t followed but that was the mistake of the management at the time and not HR. I don’t really understand it, but I guess they just don’t really care about the emotion just that I didn’t do my work so well!

  • Hi just read some of your posts i realy feel for you goodness if you havnt sufferd enought .then you have to deal with that bunch of calous rotters i had same with siblings so told some of them to take a hike thats how it is people you think will be there and ones you would never think walk up to the plate you have to look after yourself now i wouldnt rock the boat just bide your time and get a better job you cant loose you will probably find nicer employers as it will never feel same again your obviously not in a union so citizens advice seem your best bet  the trouble is if there calous employers there likely to be vindictive but they dont like publisity so write down everything said ask for the reasons in writing that will make em sweat all this rubbarb about hr being impartial is rubbish they have proven that . It will happen to them one day they may be all young and not been through it yet so there teatment of you is going to be how they are treated . If your ex was not so good think how lucky you are its funny but things have a way of working out if your having trouble with house write a letter keep a copy explaining whats whppend ime sure they will do there best to get round the problem .best wishs paul

  • I don't know how your organisation works - I am guessing that there is no one person whose job it is to help you - but don't worry.  Instead get your own back by showing them how good you really are and then going and finding yourself a better job so they realise what they have lost.    Having been a manager myself and also a TU member I have seen things happen that you would not believe and I know how higher management can stick together to protect themselves.   Annie

PS Will be away from home for the next week and might not be around.

  • If you go to see managers again you want a recording machine with you as proof they muck you about. Keep your eye open for any other jobs there are plenty around it might be different but you might enjoy it more. Good luck best wishes.
