Seeing signs from deceased loved ones

Hi everyone. I'm sure that there have already been many forum threads on this topic, but I'm really curious to hear about your experiences.

When you lost someone close to you, did you see signs? I've heard of feathers, electronic disturbances etc. but I've never had a conversation in the real world with anyone about it.

I'm not exactly an atheist - my boyfriend says I'm an agnostic atheist or something...in other words, I don't subscribe to any organized religion, but can accept that we just don't have very many answers to a lot of things, so I'm open.

I just find this all very interesting! I'm really not the kind of person to believe in any of this kind of stuff, but I will share the things that I have experienced (and a few things my sister has mentioned)

The last day my mother was alive, my sister went to say good bye with her children. She said that when she left the hospital, across the street there was loud jazz music playing from someones house. It startled her, because jazz was my mothers favourite. Throughout her illness I would play her jazz music on my phone. In her last couple of days I asked her for special requests and she said "Charlie Bird" (a jazz musician).

The day after she passed my sister noticed a white feather in her jacket. I had heard about the feather phenomenon, but didn't say anything to her. She wasn't aware of any kind of meaning. It was just funny to me, she offhandedly said "where did this feather come from?" or something like that...I just shrugged. But I never forgot it.

At my mothers funeral and visitation, I played music by Charlie Bird on my bluetooth speaker. A week later I popped into a second hand store, and right above the cash was a Charlie Bird record.

I have witnessed some weird bird activity outside my condo townhouse. There aren't many birds in the area, a few crows, robins and various small birds here and there. But mostly squirrels. A few times since she has passed I have heard a loud gathering of birds right by my house. Hundreds of them in a tree, or on the ground right by my deck, making quite the racket. One time my boyfriend noticed and he said "wow, that's weird...we don't normally see birds here". I teared up and said "it's my mother".

I've had weird experiences suddenly smelling things that aren't there, one time it was peaches and another time strawberries. The best way I can describe it is like a halucination only with smelling not visual. I've never had that before she passed. She used to make peach pies when they were in season, and she was obsessed with buying strawberries every week.

Sorry if this is a bit long. I hope some of you will share some of your experiences.

  • Hi a very close friend died suddenly last week of heart failure. He was just 45. He was a man mountain and a gentle giant. We’d been so very close for 20 years. Previous to his death I’d added a 70s song on Spotify ‘Hello Its Me’ by Todd Rungren as the lyrics described us completely. I’d never heard it previously as it’s not a well known song and rarely broadcasted. We’d always chatted by phone on Saturday mornings and last weekend when I was thinking of him at that time the same song suddenly started playing on an internet radio site. I’m convinced he was sending a message that he was with me then and I felt his presence in the room. I just sobbed all the way through.

  • I've had similar experiences. My Mum died of liver cancer 6 months ago and there have been so many coincidences and strange happenings, it's unbelievable.

I was present along with my brothers when Mum died. She seemed to be waiting until we were all in the room together, but she was not able to speak or even know what was going on. The sun was shining through the window and it seemed to shine super bright at the moment she died. After she took her final breath, the sun disappeared, clouds formed and it started to rain.

Mum died on my brother's wedding anniversary. She died when I was 34, the same age she would have been when she gave birth to me.

At the funeral we played a particular song that struck a chord, I'd never heard the song before but my brother suggested it. I'd usually see my Mum on Saturday nights, we'd watch TV and get a takeaway. The first Saturday I spent without Mum, I sat down to watch telly and the song from the funeral was being played on the TV show we use to watch.

Tuesday's I would go to see Mum and she'd cook a meal. Afterwards she'd go and put the telly on (she loved the TV!). After Mum died, whenever I go to her house to cook for her husband, after we've eaten the TV would turn on by itself. It especially happens if we are talking about Mum.

One day I was feeling particularly down and lonely, and asked out loud for Mum to give me a sign, to tell me that she's here. Later that day I was going through holiday photos and found a photo of Mum when I'd taken her to Majorca. She loved that holiday. She was sat on a bench looking out to sea, and there was a wall with some graffiti on it, I never noticed it before because it's so small. The graffiti said "Aqui Estoy".

I went to google translate and translated Aqui Estoy from Spanish to English. I got goosebumps!

  • Hey billdrick

Thank you for your response, it made me feel better and know that signs from a deceased loved one can go a little way to easing this desperate sadness. I had another sign from him just recently, a beautiful huge black raven flew down to me whilst I was walking my dog in the woods. It's said ravens are a link between the material and spirit worlds.

You were clearly so dedicated to your mum and yours was a beautiful story to read x
