Hello all i lost my dad to oesophageal  cancer in August 2016 he didn't even no he had it ,it was quick but it's so hard for me he was my dad and best friend always there for me ,never moaned and always put others first before himself ,didn't even moan in hospital ,he just wanted to go home,so when he passed me and my brother organised with the funeral directors that he be taken home before going to the funeral,I struggle everyday.

    Hi Lottie, 

    I am so sorry to hear about your Dad, he sounds like he was a wonderful man who was an amazing Dad. My Mum has oesophigal cancer too, she was diagnosed last April and told the only thing they could do is put a stent in to help her eat and drink, this last few weeks she has gone down hill, she is on morphene & methadone for pain on a driver. She can't walk and the worst part is she is refusing to see me and my brother and sisters. I don't even know how long she has left. I'm 37, the older out of my brothers and sisters so I feel I have to be strong but it's so hard. 

    I'm so sorry to you again, cancer is so evil.

    I am so sorry to hear about your loved ones.  I lost my husband my soul mate to junctional oesophagus cancer on 10th September 2016 and also my dad on christmas day 2014 to oesophagus cancer.  My husband was diagnosed April 2015.  My husband was told he was curable then not, more chemotherapy told he had full response bank holiday 2016. Check up CT scan 31st May 2016 result still all good on 8th June 2016 1 1/2 weeks later feeling terrible 7 weeks of torture and heartache told he was anxious as a cancer patient, he had IBS, he was experiencing musculoskeletal pains, and finally a Hernia with which his oncologist agreed. Blue lighted to hospital ending up with just over 41/2 litres of fluid drained from around his lungs.  Told several days later nothing could be done terminal in his stomach liver etc.  I feel your pain so much this is a horrible disease another silent killer as often its diasgnosed too late.  They say this is a rare disease and effects older people generally which is terrible but all the time my experience is of much younger people suffering.  I hate the disease what is does to people and those they love.  Lottie and Gemz - Lottie so sorry for your loss - gemz i knowwhat you mean about being the oldest and being strong but you need to take care of you too so give yourself love you deserve it and are doing all you can as did Lottie. x x x

    I'm here if you need to talk I'm 37 too and the eldest to my brother ,cancer is so evil now my mates dad is in hospital with lung cancer and it's not looking good such a cruel world we all live in

    Hi,

    Sorry to read about the losses your families have suffered. 

    I was initially told at 55 that I was too young to have Oesophageal Cancer and was fit and active - that was wrong! I had almost no symptoms apart from long term acid reflux oesophagitis which was more or less under control using medication. My OC was discovered during an endoscopy for a suspected peptic ulcer, by that time I was already into stage 4. 

    Worldwide it is now the eighth most common cancer and the numbers of OC patients with Adenocarcinoma seems to be rising as the number with Squamous cell carcinoma is falling - overall the figures are rising despite the percentage of the population who smoke falling.
