Lost both parents within 3 months to bowel cancer

This past year I've lost both my parents to bowel cancer within a very short space of time. On the outside to work colleagues, my partner and family I'm functioning, but inside I'm screaming - I really can't believe how much I'm missing my mum and dad. In my late 40's I'm experiencing panic attacks and anxiety that I've never experienced before. I wondered if anyone else had experienced these 'symptoms' and whether anyone has any coping mechanisms that have helped through this just awful time.

Thanks so much.

  • Hi [@London129]‍

I'm sorry for your loss. Would recommend seeing a GP regarding your anxiety so that's it's on record just in case you need to take anytime of work.

What do you enjoy doing? What are your interests? Take each day as it comes and do something that you enjoy doing.

Over time you can try doing something that your parents once enjoyed doing and only when you are ready, recently losing loved ones is tough and memories can trigger raw emotions.

Take each day at your own pace and talk to others about your loss try not to bottle things up. Some people recommend counselling if it helps, be aware there are bad ones out there. Remember you're never alone there are friends and relatives who are happy to help.

My sisters and I have just reached our early thirties and my brother is in his late twenties. In the space of 4 years we've lost our beloved uncle, great uncles, grand father and now experiencing a traumatic time as my mum has been diagnosed with Advance Terminal Cancer in the Liver, Bowel and Lung with my dad not coping at all. If you have siblings they are the best lean on each other.

Sending you lots of love xxxx

  • Thank you so much for reaching out - especially since you are going through such an awful time yourself. Take care of yourself and yours.

    xxx
