The physical pain of losing someone

Hello everyone

I just wanted to get anyone's thoughts on how you feel or felt after losing someone.

My lovely dad passed away 6 weeks ago now. Of course I lost my appetite and such directly after but since then I've had heartburn every day since then. I never have suffered with this and I don't know if it is related or what. My chest feels the physical ache also spmetomes but its this heartburn that's really annoying me. It only comes in short bursts but happens morning, noon and night. I am going to see the doctor on Thursday so hopefully they can help me.

Did anyone else have any physical symptoms after that were caused by the loss of someone close?

  • Hi Chuckie,

Sorry to hear about your Dad.
I haven't personally had those symptoms whilst grieving but I know many people who have.
However, I have had a peptic ulcer and reflux oesophagitis which can be stress-induced physical issues and I'm sure you will have been through an awful lot of stress in recent months.

Going to see your GP is the right thing to do, but tomorrow might be better than Thursday if you can get an emergency appointment.

    Best wishes
    Dave

  • Hi Chuckie,
I too experienced physical pain right in the middle of my breastbone.  It felt like someone had stuck their hand in and ripped my heart out, even though I know my heart is not there.  I don't get indigestion or heartburn.  I think in my case was just my body reacting to the grief.  It's not there any more.
    Take care

  • Hello! I lost my Dad just over a week ago and I experienced things I didn't even know I could. Like most people I lost my appetite and I had this very dull ache in my chest for a good week, I genuinely believe that this was anxiety, I suffer from anxiety issues anyway. I also experience endless days of tiredness even when I'd slept quite well, the whole not wanting to do anything has been a bad issue, acid reflux with you will probably be from reintroducing food and the body reacting to it, I wouldn't worry too much, just don't over load your body with food straight away. Hope you're not doing too bad, sending love and hugs, love Amy xxx

  • Thank you everyone and Amy too. Hope that you are holding up and so sorry about your Dad. I guess that for you this was the biggest loss you have experienced so far. It really does knock you for something hey :-( . I'm on some tablets for the acid and will just wait and see if it goes.

Good luck with everything in the future.XX
