Partners help

Hi, I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2nd August, had first chemo session last week which will be followed by surgery, radio therapy etc. They found last week the cancer has spread.

My partner is being so supportive, he's amazing.  Because he's self employed he's been able to free himself from work for a fortnight. I'm a positive person but the diagnosis and chemo has knocked me down, I burst into tears over nothing and get waves of sadness. I'm worried that when he goes back to work this is going to get much worse as I'll be home alone.  If we could afford the rent etc he'd stay home with me, I wondered if he would be entitled to claim any benefits for a while until I am feeling stronger and able to cope?

  • Hello Suedaunt

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It's obviously a very difficult time but it's really good to hear that your partner is being so supportive. I'm sure he has been an enormous help.

You might find it helpful to have a look at the information on the Macmillan website and give their team of financial advisors a call. I'm sure that they will be able to let you know about any benefits that you may be able to claim to make things easier over the coming months.

I hope that your treatment goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
