Confused about dad's prostate cancer. Please help

My dad has been told his cancer has spread from prostate  prostate  and In to spine and possibly ribs. He's due MRI and radiotherapy and radium injections for the pain. I'm confused as he's a private person and can't work out how bad the news is from his last scan . Has anyone gone through this and is his survival rate good or bad . He talks to me like his life is coming to an end . Am I looking at months with him or years possibly with him I want to be mentally prepared but I'm scared abs don't know how to discuss his future ?

    I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about the news that his prostate cancer has spread. 

    We have a few members here on the forum who are living with advanced prostate cancer. In particular [@Billygoatt]‍ is one such gent and I'd encourage you to have a look at his profile and some of his posts as it's been quite a few years since his diagnosis. 

    We have some information on our website which you may find helpful and I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be able to give you some information, advice, and support that will help.

    Hi I've got prostate cancer gone to lymph nodes spine ribs pelvis and a lung I was diagnosed Feb 2016 after being Sick alot of times a day after loads of tests and blood taken it was hiratus hernea . luckily some of the tests showed something else wrong so PSA test it was 1580  stage 4 followed with T3B N1 M1B Gleason 8 .

    I started with hormone therapy then chemotherapy,I didn't have any pains apart from odd back pains that went with my job (metal fabrication and welding carrying metal around) .

    I've had odd problems with my treatment when it changes when PSA rises as it does now and again.
