  • Hello Katieflechet and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis. You are so young and it must have come as a real shock to you. Try not to worry too much though. When you find out more about the type of cancer it is and whether there is a good treatment plan available for your dad, you will hopefully feel a little less anxious. It's normal to be scared though when you currently don't have any answers and there is so much uncertainty about everything.

You have come to the right place though to talk to others who understand how you are feeling at the moment and who have looked after a loved one with cancer. Once you have more information about your dad's cancer type, don't hesitate to come back here and we will be able to signpost you to useful resources and perhaps even connect you with others who have had the same type of cancer.

Our nurses are also just a free phone call away so don't hesitate to ring them on 0808 800 4040 if you have any questions - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Keep strong Katieflechet we are all here for you anytime you need to offload or talk to someone.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Katie. Welcome to the forum.

Being scared is normal.  Cancer is a scary word, but it is just word, not a sentence.

I think knowledge is power, and you are entitled to ask your parents what type of cancer it is, and what the doctors say about it.  After all, this affects you, too.
