Oesophageal stage 4 cancer T3N1M1, inoperable metastasizedb

My Dad at the age of 64 has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the oesophagus, the tumour is 8cm and is inoperable as it has grown beyond the wall of the oesophagus, spread to lymph nodes in the neck and metastasized. He has a secondary tumour of 3cm on his lower neck.
We so far have only been offered chemotherapy-we are all devasted and worried sick.
Is there anything else that we should be pushing for, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery?
Does anybody have any experience of having radiotherapy or immunotherapy at stage 4 for this type of cancer. Right now we just need some hope that this is possible to beat.

  • Hi, am sorry your dad is struggling this cycle. My husband was floored by his second cycle, and in the end they had to stop, let him recover, and for the third round they halved the dose of Capecetibine.

Now he is tolerating it really well, and we think its working as he can eat more and more each week!
I hope they can help your dad feel more comfortable with his treatment.

We are due a scan soon, as we are at the end of cycle four. Hoping to see some good news.
    Thinking of you all.

  • Hi Daisy

Hope you and your husband are well. I really appreciated your reply above. Every bit of advice means a lot. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Sometimes it's difficult to see past the daily struggle this disease has brought my Dad.

  • Thats ok Rosemary, no need to apologise! I am always thinking of everyone here, how are they doing, hope they are ok etc. Its a shared journey, which I think helps a lot. We are not alone.
My husband is continuing to be better and better, he is about to start round six of chemotherapy, eating like a horse, and full of energy. We are still awaiting the scan. You take care, I hope your dad is doing ok.
