My 63 year old Dad was diagnosed with possible Lung Cancer at the end of November 2020. A few days later he collapsed & he was taken into the Oncology department in Leeds. Because of Covid I couldn’t see him & it was difficult speaking to anyone. I did speak to a doctor who said they had done a MRI & found over 27 Brian mets & this is why he had collapsed at home & is now paralyzed down one side of his face. He was granted a fast-track discharge with palliative care as they said he was too unwell for treatment & the chance of treatment working would be slim. He is now at home & on a NJ feed machine with carers coming in 4 times a day. He has been at home now for over a month & he hasn’t deteriorated like they said he would. He is in a lot of pain but apart from that he can talk walk with a frame & shave etc. A family member asked why he hadn’t been given Immunotherapy to which I couldn’t answer. He never had any formal diagnosis apart from what they saw on a CT scan which was a 2.5 cm tumor & a possible growth on his Adrenal gland, but they did say they wasn’t sure whether that was a tumor which had spread from his Lung. They did say that the cancer was non curable & aggressive because they didn’t pick the Lung tumor up on the MRI scan he had at the beginning of 2020. However that is slightly misleading because they found what they referred to as scaring on the lung on the MRI hence the need for CT scan later that year which was postponed due to Covid.
I am wondering now why they haven’t suggested Immunotherapy & could they have got the diagnosis wrong because he hasn’t had a biopsy?
