Cancer and ptsd

hi im just wondering if anyone has been suffering with ptsd/ depression since someone close to you has been diagnosed with terminal cancer? He had 90% removed. We  got the news my dad has an aggressive brain cancer,  in may he was told 6 month. He has had radiotherapy, 2nd lot of chemotherapy tablets. Im just not coping well with it all.  I ended up having to go doctors who said i had ptsd. Im self-employed and finding functioning very difficult and some days i cant function.  I then am riddled with guilt of letting people down

  • Hi Misszozo,

Everyone deals with things in different ways, and no one can predict what effects these situations may have on a person. You're going through an awful lot at the moment, so certainly don't feel guilty about anything.

It may help to speak to others about this, if you haven't already. This could be friends/family, us here on this forum, or organisations such as Macmillan who can offer support to those caring for someone with cancer. Counselling is another option too, which can be really helpful.

It's important that you look after yourself too, and talking to others is one way of doing this - as well as not being hard on yourself, and taking some time out to do things you enjoy or that take your mind off things.

    Wishing you all the best,
