feeling desperate

My husband was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in January 2019.the shock of the diagnosis sent him into delirium. Because of this no treatment could be offerred until May when he had a course of Radiotherapy. He was considered too frail mentally for chemotherapy. When the delirium eased he was diagnosed with Alzheimers. He has had no further treatment, a stent was fitted in December but his eating is very poor. He is sleeping nearly all the time.He has never discussed the situation . I have been caring for him for 14 months now and have no help or support. I have no idea what is happening or what to expect.Sorry to moan but I am 79 and feeling pretty desperate

  • Hi yorkschrissy you should be able to get some carers in to help with some of his needs. Have a word with his Dr or anyone else who you see occupational therapist, maybe.

I understand you're problem my darling wife has Alzheimers and parkinsons. And I've been looking after her for years now also I've got cancer and on palliative care since February 2016..

Hope you can get something sorted soon. Best wishes.

  • Sorry hear what you and Hubby are going through.

For help and support there is usually a Carers Centre in most towns. They should be able to help with all aspects of your caring role.

Your local Social Services could help to provide Carers to help care for Hubby. If you have savings over £23,250 (Your home is not counted)you would have to pay for your Hubby's care. They would tcomplete an assessment to work out what help is needed.

McMillan Cancer Support can also offer help, advice and support 0808 808 00 00

They also help with benefit advice. If Hubby is not receiving a disability benefit he may be entitled to one. Which could help financially.

i am wrapping you with a big hug. xxxx

Alzheimers Association can also offer advice.
