Nurse Practitioner struggling with Dads terminal Cancer

Last year my wonderful Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and also stage 4 kidney cancer

My amazing Husband has been a star agreeing to move and get a house with down stairs amenities so we can look afer dad

We got dad through a kidney removal and he was doing well

with the prostate cancer.... unfortunately the treatment is no longer working and it is killing me seeing my dad getting weaker by the day.... Some days I feel strong but others I'm a bumbling wreck and I know I need to be strong for dad....

I just feel a failure for not being able to fix dad.... eveytime we do something nice with him I get myself down thinking that will be the last time we will get to do this..... please tell me it gets easier x

  • Hello Hugosmum

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm sure that it's been a difficult time for you but I'm really pleased to hear that your husband has been so supportive.

I can understand that seeing your Dad like this can leave you feeling powerless. Pleae don't blame yourself. I'm sure that you're doing all that you can to make things as comfortable and easy as possible.

We've some information on our website here that may be of help to you. I'm sure that if you speak to your Dad's medical team that they will be able to offer some additional advice and support for you all. You're also welcome to call and speak to one of our nurses if you thin kit would help. They will be back in the office on the 2nd January and are available 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
