I'm so sorry your wife is on this roller coaster again. What stage was she originally diagnosed at? Have they said whether the lump is a sub cutaneous met or a lymph node? Have they given her a stage now? My guess is that she will be Stage 3 which means that they may suggest removal of the lump and then a course of immunotherapy or targeted therapy (targeted is only offered if she is Braf positive). If surgery isn't suggested she will go straight on immuno/targeted. 

My experience is of having a large growth appear in my groin 13 years after being diagnosed Stage 1. Melanoma was found in the lymph node in my groin and in a pelvic node so I was diagnosed Stage 3. After a full node clearance I have been on regular checks. That was 10 years ago - I've had no drug treatment as it wasn't available for Stage 3 until last year. It's having great results. So please don't despair as things have moved on since your wife was first diagnosed. I will send you a friend request. If you accept it I can then send you a private message with more details.
