FLOT after a gastrectomy

My husband had stomach cancer and in August had a gastrectomy, he had 35 lymph nodes removed and they all came back clear, but the oncologist wants him to do 4 more FLOT he's really debating the pros and cons of treatment as it isn't the most pleasant

  • Hello Shihtzumom,

I am pleased the lymph nodes all came back clear after your husband's gastrectomy. I hope he has recovered well from the procedure. I can imagine the treatment wasn't very pleasant for him but if your oncologist advises it he or she may have reasons to believe the treatment would be beneficial. It might be worth having an open discussion with your husband's oncologist about it as they will be in the best position to explain why they would recommend more FLOT treatment to him and you could also ask any questions or mention any concerns you may have. It is definitely a difficult decision to make and an important one too!

If it helps, perhaps you could also give our nurses a ring on their free helpline number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. They would be happy to talk things through with you.

I hope you will also hear from others on our forum who have had to face a similar decision and that they will tell you more about how things went for them.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks for replying, my husband spoke to his cancer nurse, she recommended that if he was nervous about going for extra chemo and it was getting him down, then maybe he should not do it as he would be more prone to infection and there is no proof either way if the second chemo is beneficial
