Hi, My husband is going through prostrate cancer investigation, I am so so stressed. We now have 4 appointments, MRI, Biospy, Bone scan etc. My head is all over the place. I don't know how to support my husband and remain positive. We have one 6 year old who has Autism and he is non verbal. Life is so unfair. I keep thinking about the worse case scenario and don't know what I will do without him. I keep crying before I go to bed or run in the bathroom to cry or in the car on the way to work.in just don't know how to keep strong for my little family. Doctor told us that he has Cancer and after the tests they wI'll do the staging of the cancer.

  • My husband's Gleason score is 7. Is this curable? Billygoat, what type of treatment you had? Did you go through the Surgery to remove it?

  • Hi Kate, no surgery with mine spreading so far it could have spread the cancer more, there's others on forum who have had the op there's [@telemando]‍,,, sorry half asleep can't remember others have to think about it maybe tele can tell you more,, i went onto hormone therapy, and I have cemotheropy when needed to keep count down, I'm uncurable just have to live with my uninvited guest, best wishes for you and your husband,,.. Billy

  • Sorry to hear that billy goat, did they give you any indication of how long you have?

  • Hi Kate they said 5 but they also told me that I'd need more cemo before the first year ended it's been over 3 and I've not needed any yet they don't always get it right some fight more and things take longer I'm fighting for a lot longer than they said, hopefully others will join that's trouble with forum some come and go others stay and help then there's holiday and things, but I'm still surprised any body else has come on, anyway anything I can help with just ask.. Billy

  • Hi again kate ... so sorry I can't help with questions, but I've worked with autism children years ago, and know how hard you must be finding it to cope right now ..

Thankfully our lovely Billy is helping you .. and if our @telemando  picks this up .. hopefully he'll pop by .. but call McMillan or Marie Currie and see if there's any help or councilling in your area .. you need to look after your self too .. bless ya .. sending you a vertual hug...  Chrissie

  • Hi Goodluck. I've only just found this thread. I'm really sorry to hear of your husband's situation.

I was lucky in that my prostate cancer was discovered early (T2) and I had surgery to remove it. So far, I've not needed any further treatment.  However the situation is different when the cancer is more advanced, and Billygoat is the go-to guy for this.

I'm not a doctor and I'm most definitely not an expert.  With locally advanced cancer (T3) there are a range of options, and the specialist will suggest the ones which best fit your husband's case.  This may or may not include surgery.  A T3 cancer can sometimes be cured, but alas not always; a PSA of 10 and Gleason 7 sounds good, but every case is different and I'm not a doctor.  Even when it can't be cured, it can still be controlled for many years, as in Billygoat's case.

In addition to Cancer Research (this site) there are a two excellent prostate cancer charities where you can go for further information.  The first is Prostate Cancer UK and here is their information page on locally advanced prostate cancer. The second is Tackle Prostate Cancer.  Tackle is a patient centred charity that supports many local prostate cancer support groups.  I am a member of one such group, and in fact we had a meeting only yesterday.  It might be worth your husband finding a local supprt group, because there will be men there who've been in the same situation.
