Finding it hard - BC diagnosis

Was diagnosed with DCIS last year and was totally positive, had my treatment and am now cured.

I've posted on the forum regularly in support of many and hope my words have been encouraging to those I've replied to.

Now only 12 months later my daughter has been diagnosed  with invasive ductal carcinoma and I'm finding it hard. Hopefully caught really early as she had herself checked after I was diagnosed and was clear. She has a CT scan tomorrow (is this usual?) and her lumpectomy is scheduled for the 15th. Other than that we don't know her treatment plan yet. Don't know any stages or other info yet.

I'm finding it harder to deal with than my own. As a parent you just want to protect your children and I'd take the hit first over my kids any day. She's only 42 with 2 young boys.

My hubby's taken it really hard

She lives away from me and I think I'll feel better when I see her (next week)

I know I'll get support on here and hopefully Chrissie, Marlyn, Beachebabe, Jolamine will chip in and make me  feel a whole lot better with their wise words

Thanks in advance - Irene x

  • Now to rest....tomorrow is a new day......a day without cancer......just perfect xxxxx

  •

    Hi Irene,

Your poor daughter. It's great news that the lymph nodes are clear. You know that post-surgery feeling - the results are now more scary than the operation.

I am hoping and praying that all will turn out well for her on 3rd April.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Glad you daughter now home. Now it’s time for you both to rest and hopefully have a better nights sleep! Xx

  • Good luck with your mammo today Cornish. Thinking about you. Haven't had a result from mine yet.

Will let you all know how my daughter gets on next week. She finds out her treatment plan on the 3rd April. Really hoping she avoids chemo but she'll take whatever it needs to get rid of it for good.

Had a mad week with her last week. Washed curtains, cleared out drawers, cupboards and wardrobes. Took about 12 bags of rubbish to the tip. All very therapeutic.

Hope you're all keeping well - Irene x

  • Hi there Irene. .

Just popping on to check how it's all going... fingers crossed for no chemo .. but know if she's as tough as her mum, she'll take on whatever gets thrown at her ...

Well my my ... you've been a busy bee ... that's mum's for ya .. my mum helped me... l try and do same .. but have some fun too .. some real good mum/daughter treats ...

Well I'll keep popping on to see how your going .., but can see your being well cared for ... so sending you all a vertual hug .... Chrissie

  • Fingers crossed for your daughters treatment plan, hope it isn't chemo...but if it is it's completely doable...I promise you xxxx

  • Well my daughter saw the surgeon today. The great news is that they have removed the whole area and they are confident she is now cancer free. However, because of her age and the fact that she absolutely wants to reduce any risk of recurrence, she is going belt and braces and taking all the treatments on offer to her.

This will mean chemo, hormone treatment and radiotherapy. In her own words........Perhaps not the tastiest cocktail I have ever ordered.......but hopefully the most effective

She has another appointment next week when I expect she will get her timetable for treatments. It’s going to be a hard few months ahead but we’re ready for it. Got our boxing gloves on now and will look forward to a few more tasty cocktails soon

thanks all for being there. I’ll keep you all updated with her progress -Irene x

  • So pleased to see your daughter is cancer free! Together your get through the next few months. Your be strong for each other. Everyday is a day closer to the end of treatment! Big hugs to you both x

    Hi Irene,

This is just the news that we were hoping to hear. I am delighted to discover that she is still going for the belt and braces option and remains so positive about it.

I hope that her appointment next week goes well. Yes, it will be a tough few months, but oh so worth it, if it keeps this cancer away!

We are always here for you both.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
