Good evening Dave. I really do appeciate you spending the time not only reading but also replying to my message. I have spoken at length with my Mum and she does not recall at any point my Dad being told what stage the cancer is at despite attending all of the scans and various meetings. My Dad too has never been informed. I have looked on his bowel cancer letter forn he number and letter formations to indicate the stage and nothing ia showing only where the cancerous polops are and there is no diagram on his lung cancer letter. I will have another look in case it's been missed. My Mum was going to get in touch with Dads consultant tonasknwhat stage is at or direct her to what letter it may be on. My dad has 4 children and seven grand children so I'm wanting to ensure everything is answered correctly and no unnesseccary panicking for any of us Dad included. X
That's awful - how can anyone be expected to make informed choices if they've not been given all the relevant information?
I hope you get the information you need soon.
Best wishes
Dave
Hello Dave. Once again thank you for your reply. This is where the confusion lies, we have never been informed of the stage / grading not to mention used the words palliative care which is why i am confused. I have 3 children whom each hold a brilliant relationship with him. From day one when i broke the news to my daughters i have been very honest and told them that I would keep them in the know throughout the illness as tgey deserve the truth there's a part of me that doesnt want tonrun the risk of them blaming me for withholding information from them. . I have had a reply from a Macmillian nurse based on my overview given on my profile and it makes aense in what sje explained. Thanks again for your time Dave, kindest regards x.
Hi the moment my husband was diagnosed with mouth cancer a Macmillan nurse was in the room, she was invaluable whilst he was having treatment. When a terminal diagnosis was given and care was provided in the community another Macmillan nurse was provided via the hospice. Again another wonder woman who really helped my poor husband during the last 6 months of his life.
Sadly my sister has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour and no Macmillan nurse has been assigned, she and her family really need one, but during these covid times things are not working as well as they could.
Hi
McMillan nurse referrals are normally made when a patient is referred for palliative care. Palliative care, is designed to look at the care required for each individual. Patient needs will differ. Mc Millan nurses assisted my family During the last days of my father's life. They were excellent.
Patients referred to McMillan nurses often have a number of care needs, which include telief of pain , general discomfort caused by their treatments and therapies, these may include mouth ulcers, horrible taste in the mouth, infections painful joints and skin etc.
The Mcmillan nurses have resources available to them that can help the patient family/ in care delivery . Very supportive team.
I was given a macmilan nurse when I was give. The diagnosis as they were so sure it was cancer. I lived thinking I had ovarian cancer for 12, weeks. Turned out it was severe endometriosis. I was cut from under my boobs all the way Down and had a horrendous recovery. Been told to seek legal advice.
Not sure but my mum was told before Christmas they can't treat her cancer due to her disabilities etc so basically told her she is terminal but could be years they don't know how long she has, she said she doesn't even feel unwell so guess that a good thing, she saw her own GP on Wednesday this week who said he'd get in touch with Macmillain as she's really struggling to come to terms with this diagnosis as she is in tears most days as she was with he GP who I will add is amazing with mum, but macmillan called her the next day and coming to see her on Wednesday next week.
