Cellulitis after Mastectomy and 1st round of Chemo

hello all

You will see from my profile I’ve joined the chat group as my aunt, who is very very dear to me is currently fighting breast cancer. Late last night, early hours of this morning we had to call an ambulance, her temp sky rocketed to 38.4... she started her first round of chemo on 17th January 2019.

The chemo team and hospital have been amazing and said she has neutropenic sepsis and confirmed cellulitis  on the right starting from the beginning of her incision right the way around under her armpit and her dog ears (cats ears as she’s calling them!). They started her on strong IV antibiotics and plasma injections (I think that’s what the surgeon said) intonher tummy. They’ve also drained off 365ml of seroma on the right side today.

Has anyone else been neutropenic? Breast Cellulitis? Any advice? I’m so petrified I’m going to lose her and I want to remain strong for her. All responses much appreciated xx

  • Hello Sazzle01,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am sorry to hear about your aunt, she sounds like a wonderful lady.

Hopefully our members can provide some of their experiences and valuable knowledge, but in the meantime feel free to call the Cancer Chat nurses on 0808 800 4040 between Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. They will be able to help you understand her treatment a bit more. You can also email them via the contact form here.

Best wishes to you and your aunt.

  • Thanks Anastatia, she is a truly wonderful lady with the biggest heart. She is currently still in isolation and Iv antibiotics, her infection is raging and we dont seem to see a light at the end of this endless tunnel at the moment :(
